Let’s check out some bargain play quarterbacks.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 5 – Quarterbacks
Jacoby Brissett ($5,600) vs. SF
Brissett faces off against a San Francisco defense that ranks 26th in DVOA vs. Pass. He is a threat to score with his arm and with his feet, which gives him a higher floor. The Colts have been a run first team this season, but with 34-year old Frank Gore in the backfield it is difficult to ride him all game long. San Francisco head coach, Kyle Shanahan, has his offense ranked second in pace of play, which could force Brissett to have to throw more. Brissett has a strong YAC weapon in T.Y. Hilton who could take an eight yard slant to the house.
Philip Rivers ($5,800) vs. NYG
Rivers had a nice bounce back game against the Eagles and a poor secondary last week. He faces the Giants in Week 5 and I expect both teams to throwing the ball a lot. Rivers has thrown the ball an average of 39 times over the past three weeks and should do the same again here. The Giants rank 25th in DVOA vs. Pass and I expect the game total to go over its current line of 45 total points.
Carson Palmer ($5,900) vs. PHI
The Cardinals running game is essentially nonexistent, which has forced Palmer to drive most of the offense. He is averaging 45.75 pass attempts per game, which is the volume you want at a relatively low price tag. Rivers picked apart the Eagles defense in Week 4 and I don’t expect them to make a turnaround for this week. Palmer has enough receiving weapons to turn a high volume of attempts into a nice fantasy outing.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 5 – Running Backs
Isaiah Crowell ($4,700) vs. NYJ
Crowell hasn’t done much this year in which many believed would be a break out year. After last week, Cleveland’s GM stated that the game slipped away when they stopped running the ball. Although just a narrative, I think this is a strong enough statement to trust in Crowell. The Jets are ranked 27th in DVOA vs. Run and the big-bodied Crowell should be able to find room to run and a good shot at finding the end zone.
Andre Ellington ($4,600) vs. PHI
David Johnson‘s absence has created a need for a pass-catching running back to help the offense. Ellington has secured that role and is seeing more targets each week (eight in Week 3 and 14 in Week 4). With Palmer throwing the ball nearly 46 times per game, Ellington is a safe bet to see his usual amount of looks in a game script that has the Cardinals trailing for most of the game.
Frank Gore ($4,400) vs. SF
It’s rare that Gore should be rostered in DFS, but if there was a week to do it, it would be this week. I mentioned Jacoby Brissett, so if you pick one of these Colts players, you should fade the other. If the Colts decided to slow the pace of the game, Gore could see upwards of 20 attempts and potential for a score. At $4,400, rostering Gore allows you to pay up elsewhere and doesn’t require many points to achieve value.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 5 – Wide Receivers
Sterling Shepard ($5,200) vs. LAC
We know the Giants can’t run the ball, which makes the receiving options very attractive this week. The Chargers are bad at defending WR2s and Shepard is seeing 6.75 targets per game. He’s a threat to go the distance on a short play out of the slot and will have plenty of opportunities to do so. Eli Manning has thrown the ball nearly 50 times each of the last two weeks and this game should be another shootout.
Jaron Brown ($4,500) vs. PHI
Brown has been able to stay healthier than John Brown and J.J. Nelson, which has increased his role in the offense. On a time that throws the ball a significant amount of time, he should see the most snaps out of the three receivers not named Larry Fitzgerald. Keenan Allen and Tyrell Williams crushed the Eagles secondary last week, which should have to defend against 40-plus pass attempts this week.
Nelson Agholor ($3,900) vs. ARI
On the other side of the ball, Agholor has been inconsistent this season after a strong Week 1 performance. Agholor should see an increase in value as Patrick Peterson is expected to shadow Alshon Jeffery . If this game because a shootout, Agholor could achieve value at only $3,900.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 5 – Tight Ends
Evan Engram ($4,000) vs. LAC
As I mentioned, the Giants only offense is to throw the ball. Engram has been a steady option at the tight end spot with over eight targets per game for the last three weeks. The Chargers rank 30th in DVOA vs. TE and Engram’s price tag isn’t too expensive. The game flow leans heavily towards a pass-heavy outing for the Giants.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins ($3,500) vs. CLE
If you’re looking to punt at tight end, Seferian-Jenkins is your choice. The Browns are bad at defending tight ends and gave up two scores to Tyler Kroft last week. Josh McCown should continue to look to Seferian-Jenkins as a dump down option. He may not finish with a lot of receiving yards, but has two touchdown upside.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 5 – Defense
Bengals ($3,300) vs. BUF
Although the Bengals are the fourth most expensive defense on the slate, they only come in at $3,300. The Bengals defensive line and Bills offensive line have a combined sack rate of 9.6%, which ranks second highest this week. They should be able to get pressure on Tyrod Taylor and have chances for multiple turnovers. LeSean McCoy hasn’t been able to get much going on the ground lately and I don’t think the Bengals allow him to do so in Week 5.
