Brighton and Everton are equal on points coming into this fixture. Brighton are ahead on goal differential by four goals, which is not something that seemed likely heading into the start of the season. The Seagulls are in 14th place, and would be overjoyed to stay there throughout the season. Their two wins have come against West Brom and Newcastle, which are the exact types of teams they need to be picking up points against to stay up. Pascal Gross and Tomer Hemed lead the club with two goals apiece.

Everton are in disarray. At the beginning of the season, it looked like their goal was to challenge for a Champions League spot, or at the least a Europa League place. Considering all the money they spent in the transfer market, the expectations didn’t seem that lofty. However, Ronald Koeman and his squad have not performed anywhere near a high level, and their big money signings have not paid off either. Gylfi Sigurdsson has failed to record a single goal or assist in the league, and only Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse of all people have got on the score sheet. Things needs to change quick for Everton, especially if Koeman wants to keep his job for much longer.
