Browns pull off rare quadfecta of awful in Houston
The Cleveland Browns show us again how terrible they truly are with a hilariously awful play against the Houston Texans.
When we think of bad NFL teams, the Cleveland Browns are the first team to come to mind for most people. I mean, the Browns haven’t made the playoffs since they snuck in as a 9-7 team way back in 2002.
Since 1990, Cleveland has only been over .500 three times. At 0-5 (soon to be 0-6), the Browns are not going to make any sort of run this season. They have been absolutely dreadful and it only appears to be continuing.
Well, it is not getting any better as Cleveland is trailing the Houston Texans 33-10 on Sunday afternoon. One play late in the third quarter against Houston perfect encapsulates the Browns as a franchise.
Deep in their own territory, the Browns dropped back to pass on 3rd and 7. Kevin Hogan received immediate pressure from the Texans’ front seven. Instead of looking to run or force the ball down the field, Hogan panicked and simply tossed the ball forward a few yards just before he went down.
Flags were immediately thrown as Hogan was called for intentional grounding. Considering he was in the end zone when throwing the ball, that means a safety for the Texans defense. The Browns couldn’t even line up correctly on the play and were also called for an illegal formation. To make matters worse, Hogan was injured on the play.
Will Brinson of CBS Sports summarized it nicely:
Luckily (or not, depending on your point of view), Hogan came back into the game on the next drive, not appearing to be injured at all. That being said, it does not take away the complete ineptitude by Cleveland on that single play.

Cleveland’s front office has made some interesting moves in recent years. With a ridiculous stock of draft picks, they may finally be able to put together a talented team. That being said, that does not appear to be happening anytime soon. At least for now, the Browns are most definitely still the Browns.
