Southampton will face Newcastle in a mid-table clash in the Premier League on Sunday. Southampton are 12th in the table with eight points on the season so far, while Newcastle sit three spots ahead in ninth. The Saints started the season on a three match unbeaten run, however, only one of those saw them score a goal, which has been their biggest problem on the season. Southampton only has five goals as a team, two of which were penalties. They have yet to find a consistent goalscorer, and are relying on inconsistent attacking play to scrape points early on. No one on the squad has more than one goal so far.

Newcastle have been quietly moving up in the table ever since their inauspicious start to the season. Rafa Benitez’s side rattled off three consecutive wins in the Premier League after opening the season with two losses, and drew 1-1 against Liverpool in their last match. The turnaround has been drastic. Early on, there were rumblings of Benitez’s growing frustration with the way owner Mike Ashley handled the transfer window, but all of that seems long ago. If Newcastle can keep winning despite not spending much money, fans should rightfully begin to be excited again.
