Spencer Dinwiddie’s Twitter account is one of the best in the NBA. Sure Joel Embiid is tremendous and Rudy Gobert is an entertaining brand of petty, but Dinwiddie is real. It’s heartening. It’s like running through a sprinkler on a very hot day. While the experience is brief, it’s a relief from a lot of the uncomfortable reality of the world around you.

For example, there’s this:

And there’s this:

So you keep scrolling along looking for a smile, and then this happens:

Oh. Is that legit?

Yeah, it’s legit. It’s extremely legit. Dinwiddie, in partnership with the United Negro College Fund, has launched Dinwiddie Scholars, a four-year scholarship to cultivate the next generation of diverse leaders. As stated on the Dinwiddie Family Foundation website:

"Dinwiddie Scholars is a renewable, need- and merit-based scholarship program open to low-income, minority students from Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles, CA. Students selected as Dinwiddie Scholars will receive up to $20,000 in scholarships per year. UNCF will work with The Dinwiddie Family Foundation to conduct outreach to eligible students, review applications, and administer funds."

Lack of financial means remains the biggest obstacle to furthered education for potential students. With Dinwiddie’s scholarship, applicants can attain up to $20,000 toward tuition and out-of-pocket expenses for up to four years, giving students who otherwise may not have the opportunity for a college degree the chance to focus on academics without the worry of how they’ll pay for it.

Applications open in January 2018, but it’s never too early to get the word out. It’s a good thing to do. Not Dinwiddie-level good, but it’s something.
