Main’s Mavericks – Week 8 Boom-or-Bust Draftkings NFL GPP Advice
Main’s Mavericks is providing weekly Draftkings NFL GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, boom-or-bust plays destined to outperform value. As a general rule for this article, I target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). I will be using all of my picks in Week 8 DraftKings NFL GPP tournaments as boom-or-bust punt options. Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that $1,000,000 lineup.
How I did last week:
Tyrod Taylor 5,100 vs TB (25th Priced QB) – 20.02 (10th QB)
Joe Mixon 5,000 @ PIT (29nd Priced RB) – 9.80 (28th RB)
Thomas Rawls 4,100 @ NYG (50th Priced RB) – 5.20 (46th RB)
Kenny Stills 4,400 vs NYJ (43rd Priced WR) – 26.50 (3rd WR)
Marquise Lee 4,300 @ IND (46th Priced WR) – 11.20 (30th WR)
Tyler Lockett 4,100 @NYG (55th Priced WR) – 8.40 (41st WR)
Ben Watson 3,000 @ MIN (24th Priced TE) – 8.80 (22nd TE)

Main’s Mavericks Week 7 DraftKings NFL Recap
Let’s Go Team! What a week! All 7 of my week 7 Main’s Mavericks outperformed their DK pricing. 2 Main’s Mavericks finished inside the top 10 at their respective positions. I also was able to break the WR curse. Kenny Stills ate this week. 26.50 DK points – that is greater than 6 times his salary – earned Stills a spot as the 3rd overall WR. I would also like to mention that Kenny Stills was the top receiver on Sunday, with Thursday’s duo of Amari Cooper and Tyreke Hill finishing 1 and 2. And did you see that incredible catch he had? Check it out, pretty impressive stuff: I like to think that this article had something to do with that catch.
Tyrod Taylor was the other top 10 finisher, putting together a game-winning drive to solidify his spot at QB 10. Mixon and Rawls were not able to cross the pylon, but had respectable weeks. Marquise Lee (took Zay Jones place when Matthews suited up), Tyler Lockett, and Ben Watson were target monsters, but fell a touchdown short of scoring 4 times their values.
Through week 7, Main’s Mavericks has 8 top 10 finishers at their respective positions’. 4 of those top 10 finishers ranked 5th or better, with 2 1st overall finishes (CJ Anderson week 2, Jerick McKinnon week 6).

DraftKings NFL Boom-or Bust Picks
QB:
Joe Flacco 4,800 vs MIA (28th Priced QB)
Jeremy Maclin, Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman and Ben Watson all were limited in practice this week. I believe that bodes well for Flacco. He has been miserable the last few weeks, but he has also been throwing to bums (no offense to Chris Moore or Michael Campanaro). Flacco can get back on track against a Miami defense giving up 15.82 fantasy points to QBs (per fantasy.nfl.com).
RB:
Joe Mixon 4,700 vs IND (27th Priced RB)
I really question why Mixon’s price dropped by $300. He put up 9.80 DK points in a blowout game that did not suit his usage. Now he enters a matchup with the Colts, a team that allowed 188 yards and 2 TDs on the ground last week against Jacksonville (per espn.com). Let’s exploit this matchup gang.
Tarik Cohen 4,600 @ NO (28th Priced RB)
I am torn on this pick. There is actually a lot of value at RB this week. I really like Jalen Richard at 4,300 with Marshawn Lynch out, but I decided to roll with Cohen because of his upside. Tarik Cohen’s usage is nowhere near where it was with Mike Glennon at the helm, but I am positive he will get a ton of looks this week. 1) New Orleans is going to score a lot of points, forcing Chicago to keep pace by throwing the ball. 2) Cohen will be playing on synthetic turf, meaning that it is basically a track meet for him. Enough said.

Main’s Mavericks: Boom-or-Bust DraftKings NFL Picks
WR:
Willie Snead 4,000 vs CHI (45th Priced WR)
The Bears secondary has played admirable against solid QBs thus far. However, they have not been tested by a 1st ballot hall of famer playing on the fastest surface in football. I am leery about staring Snead due to the mystery surrounding why he was unable to play last week. So read the injury report and figure out if he will be in the starting lineup Sunday. If he is not able to suit up, roll with Ted Ginn Jr 4,700 vs CHI.
Travis Benjamin 3,900 @ NE (52nd Priced WR)

Benjamin has big play written all over him. That is something that NE has done a great job of containing the past few weeks. But with Stephon Gilmore and Malcom Butler focusing their attention on Allen and Williams, I see Benjamin sneaking past the defense. Definitely a boom-or-bust play this week.
Marquise Goodwin 3,900 @ PHI (52nd Priced WR)
To be completely honest, I have never watched this guy play football. This is purely a stats play. In his last three games (all against poorly ranked secondaries: IND, WAS, DAL) Goodwin has averaged 55 snaps/game, 8 targets/game, and over 20 yards per catch. He is averaging 12.27 DK pints per game over that stretch. This guy has been a big play monster, but has yet to score a touchdown this year. If he is able to cross the pylon, he should easily top 4 times his value.
TE:
Ryan Griffin 3,100 vs @ SEA (20th Priced TE)
A TE is a rookie QBs best friend. A big target running short patterns over the middle; it’s like throwing to your brother in the back yard. Since week 3, Griffin and Watson have developed a nice rapport, averaging almost 9 DK points per game. Seattle has been suspect against the position, allowing over 8 points per game (per fantasy.nfl.com).
