Brighton secured a big win against West Ham last week to move 12th in the Premier League table on 11 points. They’ll host Southampton this week as they seek to build on that momentum. Chris Hughton’s side were widely tipped for relegation ahead of the season, but have proved to be difficult to beat and have produced just enough in attack to pick up points consistently.
The key man going forward for the Seagulls has been Pascal Gross, bought from Ingolstadt in the summer. The German has two goals and four assists in nine starts for the club. His creativity and quality from set pieces could be a difference maker against a the Saints.

Southampton’s problems under new manager Mauricio Pellegrino are the same as their problems under old manager Claude Puel: they can’t score. The Saints have conceded nine goals, but have scored only eight, and have managed more than one goal in a match only twice this season.
They are, however, coming off a big win against West Brom, earned thanks to a spectacular late goal by Sofiane Boufal, who came off the bench in the second half. His game-changing performance could see him move into the starting XI against Brighton as Pellegrino continues to try and get more production out of his attack.

This is likely to be a low-scoring contest, with Brighton sitting deep and looking to play on the counter. Southampton are unlikely to create many chances given the Seagulls tactics against superior opposition, and we haven’t been given much evidence this season to conclude they’ll take them. This should be close, then, but perhaps not particularly entertaining.
