Kentucky’s chasing Tyler Herro while a few other prospects made their college decisions

2018 college basketball recruiting continues to roll on and we even got a few early commitments from the 2019 class this week. Here’s a quick roundup of the biggest stories from the recruiting trail.

Tyler Herro offered by Kentucky, sets visit

4-star shooting guard Tyler Herro has been in the headlines plenty lately after de-committing from Wisconsin in mid-October. Several of the country’s top programs, including Arizona, Butler, Kansas, Oregon and Villanova have reached out to Herro, but it appears Kentucky is taking off as the favorite.

Head coach John Calipari and assistant Kenny Payne were in Milwaukee this week to watch the 6-foot-5 guard workout and they made him a scholarship offer shortly after. Herro has already set up an official visit with the Wildcats, the only one on his schedule so far. It makes sense, then, that Kentucky is trending for the 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

4-star power forward Kamaka Hepa commits to Texas

Shaka Smart stays getting it done on the recruiting trail at Texas. This week he landed a commitment from 4-star power forward Kamaka Hepa. The 6-foot-9 big man joins a trio of other high school prospects in the Longhorns’ 2018 class, which currently ranks in the top 10 nationally over at 247Sports.

Hepa can space the floor out to the 3-point line and will give Smart a versatile weapon to play with on offensive from that power forward spot. Although the Texas roster figures to turnover quite a bit by next fall, it’s likely the Longhorns will still need to put more shooting on the floor around a collection of guards who haven’t been very accurate so far.

2019 5-star Joey Baker is headed to Duke

Junior Joey Baker became the second 5-star player in the Class of 2019 to pinpoint his college choice this week, announcing his plans to attend Duke via Twitter. Baker received his scholarship offer from the Blue Devils in late September. The 6-foot-7 forward will give head coach Mike Krzyzewski a replacement for 2018 commitment Cameron Reddish who projects to only spend on year in college.

2019 guard Grant Sherfield commits to UCLA

4-star shooting guard Grant Sherfield announced his plans to attend UCLA via Twitter this week. The 6-foot-2 guard took an unofficial visit to the school in October. He joins 5-star guard LaMelo Ball in the Bruins’ 2019 class. Sherfield should give UCLA another dynamic scoring option off the bounce by the time he reaches college.
