United are in a bit of a lethargic run in the Premier League over the past few matches. They’ve only won one game out of the past four, losing to Huddersfield and Chelsea while tying Liverpool. Due to this recent slide, United dropped eight points behind rivals Manchester City only 11 matches into the new season. They’re currently tied with Tottenham on points in second place, leading by goal differential. Jose Mourinho’s side needs to pick up all three points at home to keep up with City. Newcastle have been surprisingly steady this season so the result is not guaranteed.
Rafa Benitez and Newcastle are currently behind both promoted teams but still sit in 11th place. They began the season as well as they could’ve hoped, but have trailed off in recent weeks similarly to United. Newcastle only have one win in their past six coming against Crystal Palace at home, including two straight 1-0 losses to Burnley and Bournemouth. The Magpies need to pick up points however they can because of their brutal December schedule. United away is always a tough ask, but Newcastle have been stout defensively all season. With another good effort on Saturday, they could manage to find a win or a draw.
