Toronto Raptors: Bruno Caboclo

“Bruno, are we there yet?”

“We’re two miles away from being two miles away.”

I really just wanted to make that joke. There’s really nothing else to say about Bruno Caboclo, NBA player.

Bruno Caboclo, G League player, is different. Some of my favorite moments from the G-League last year involved Bruno Caboclo. In the Finals, it looked like he may have kickstarted a career maybe possibly kinda. I even declared each of a series of days Bruno Caboclo Day.

The Car-boclo stalled pretty quickly. This season he has played less than seven minutes and has fewer points than he has personal fouls. There are a lot of fascinating young players playing for the Raptors this year. Caboclo is not one of them.

I want badly to like Bruno Caboclo in the NBA, which is to say I want to be given a reason to like him. I’m not sure that opportunity is ever going to come. There are all sorts of players with untapped potential in the NBA if that’s what you’re in to. There are a few of them drafted every year. When it turns out well, you’re going down a Dragan Bender path of development: a few flashes and some progress over time. If it goes perfectly, you get Giannis: a potential MVP.

When it doesn’t go at all, you get Bruno.

Now, we should give Bruno some credit. The series of syllables in his name is very pleasing to say in succession.

That’s enough credit for now.
