Chelsea travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in a battle of two of the most confusing teams in the Premier League. Chelsea are coming off of a 4-0 midweek win over Qarabag. Liverpool are fresh off a 3-3 draw with Sevilla midweek in the Champions League that was classic Liverpool in so many ways.
Liverpool have been playing well recently until they gave up a three-goal lead against Sevilla. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t finish top of their Champions League group, but it didn’t strike pure positivity into Liverpool fans’ hearts. What it showed was the main problems that still plague Jurgen Klopp’s teams. He literally said that Liverpool “stopped playing football” when talking about their lackluster finish against Sevilla. Should they throw the same defensive laziness against Chelsea the Blues will make them pay, and they won’t have such an easy time putting goals past Chelsea’s defense.
Chelsea’s two straight wins against West Brom and Qarabag were impressive offensively, scoring eight goals combined. While those two sides don’t pose a tough defensive opposition, they resemble Liverpool in terms of their defensive stature. Eden Hazard and the rest of the Chelsea attack looked excellent, and the only question mark is still how they’ll defend good counterattacking teams like Liverpool.
