Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu heaves a 51-yard touchdown bomb to fellow Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones out of the wildcat formation.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones only had one touchdown on the season entering play on Sunday. He should have had two, but dropped the easiest one of his career from Matt Ryan against the Carolina Panthers three weeks ago. Apparently, all he needed was fellow wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to heave him one.

Sanu was in the ‘gun as part of the Falcons’ wildcat formation. In his career, Sanu was 5-5 as a passer with three touchdowns from when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals. He might have bobbled the snap, but his 51-yard touchdown strike to Jones was absolutely incredible.

With the way that some NFL quarterbacks are playing this season, are we sure Sanu can’t make more money as a signal caller next season? No, he just really likes playing with Jones and the Falcons. What a play though!

The threat of Sanu throwing the football makes him such a deadly part of the wildcat formation. It was excellent play design by offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and excellent execution by both Sanu and Jones. Perhaps the Falcons’ offense has found itself in the last few weeks?

Atlanta is the No. 6 seed entering play in the NFC, but is in third place in its own division. The Falcons do have back-to-back wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks in the last two weeks. Should they be able to hold off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons will improve to 7-4 and get its first division win in the process.

How Atlanta plays down the stretch in the division will decide if this team makes the playoffs or not. Atlanta has five of its last six games in NFC South play, including two with the arch rival New Orleans Saints remaining. The Falcons are playing great ball at the right time of the season.
