Are the young Lakers in good hands? Let’s ask their parents

The Lakers have shown some flashes of potential this season, surprisingly flashing a top ten defense while playing the young trio of Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and second year player Brandon Ingram over 30 minutes per game. But the hype machine around Lonzo Ball and the spotlight of playing in Los Angeles has put the microscope on his shooting woes. All the while his father LaVar and siblings keep (purposefully) dominating the sports news cycle.

But perhaps a bigger issue for the Lakers is their reported insistence in freeing salary cap space to be a free agent player next summer, hopefully courting LeBron James and Paul George. Absent a move that brings in LeBron, does it make sense to give up on Julius Randle (23 years old) and Jordan Clarkson (25) to chase free agents? Would it be a better idea to grow the team organically around their young core?

To discuss this and other non-BBB issues, likable Lakers fan and friend of the show Daman Rangoola (@damanr) joins for a new episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Also covered:

  • How much faith does Daman have in Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson to build a team?
  • Was it actually Lonzo who requested the enforcement of  the “LaVar Ball rule?”
  • Where should fired Grizzlies coach David Fizdale end up?
  • When the newly spread out NBA schedule results in no Pacific Time Zone games, how should we spend our nights?
