United failed to close the gap to rivals Manchester City over the weekend. They fell 2-1 due to two set pieces and couldn’t equalize late on. The match essentially ended the Premier League title race, as City are now on top by 11 points and remain unbeaten. However deflating the contest was, United still need to come out strong against Bournemouth if they want to have any shot at capturing the title. In all likelihood, City will drop points and lose a game or two, but that means competitors need to be almost spotless over the rest of the season to catch them. United start their challenge against Bournemouth, who have been in better form lately but still reside near the bottom of the table.
The Cherries have been wallowing near the bottom three for most of the season, but their performances of late have given them hope that a relegation battle may not be in their future. Eddie Howe’s squad has won three and drawn three in their last eight matches. Three of those wins were against fellow relegation battlers, which will mean more come the end of the season. Unfortunately for them, they now face United, Liverpool and Manchester City in consecutive matches.
