After 20 games, Huddersfield and Burnley are arguably the biggest overachievers through the first half of the Premier League season. Huddersfield are the top promoted team this season, sitting 11th in the table with 23 points. Burnley have flirted with the top four for most of the season. The Clarets have stumbled lately, dropping to seventh with 33 points.

Coming into the season, Huddersfield were expected to be one of the worst teams in the Premier League. However, David Wagner’s side have overachieved despite having the fourth worst goal differential. The Terriers have allowed the fourth most goals this season and scored only 18, the fifth fewest. Laurent Depoitre, Steve Mounié, and Aaron Mooy have combined for 13 of the club’s 18 goals. Over their past five games, Huddersfield have picked up 8 points. In their last two games, the Terriers drew 1-1 with Southampton and Stoke.

Burnley drew with Manchester United 2-2 on Boxing Day. Over their past five games, the Clarets have eight points but have not won in their past three games. Like Huddersfield, Burnley have only scored 18 goals this season. New Zealand striker Chris Wood leads the club with four goals. While Burnley are one of the weaker offensive teams, Sean Dyche’s side have been one of the best defensive sides. Over their first 20 games, the Clarets have allowed only 17 goals, the fourth fewest in the league.
