Why has Chevy decided to make the switch to the new Camaro for the 2018 NASCAR season?
The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season is almost here. The start of the season is always the most exciting for the sport, as it means the Daytona 500 has arrived. It’s the perfect start to the year and offers one driver the opportunity to punch their ticket to the NASCAR Playoffs. This year, there will be a new look for Chevy on the track as well.
The Chevrolet Camaro ZL 1 will make its debut at Daytona. For Jimmie Johnson and the rest of the Chevy drivers in NASCAR, it’s going to be an opportunity to rack up wins behind the wheel of a new vehicle.
The Camaro SS had been the vehicle in use for the cup series, but now the faster and more improved ZL 1 will take its place. Making the switch has become almost imperative for the teams that use Chevy.
Last year, the Toyota drivers seemingly blew past the competition and had a leg up on everyone else. The new Camry model they started using in 2017 may have had something to do with that — at least if you ask Brad Keselowski.

Now, Chevy will hope to even up the playing field a bit and produce yet another champion, after Johnson last won during the 2016 season.
Plenty of NASCAR’s elite young talent will be behind the wheels of the new Camaro as well. Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, William Byron and Alex Bowman are just some of the drivers that will be working their way through the ranks in a ZL 1.
The NASCAR season brings new looks every year. This year, Chevy is aiming to make a strong statement on the track with their new Camaro.
