Here’s how you can watch Maame Biney race in the women’s 500-meter short track final online.
It’s 5 a.m. and that means it’s short track time. All of the Olympic short track races stream live at the bright and early hour of 5 a.m. ET, lasting until approximately 7 or 8 a.m. depending on the event. The women’s 500-meter short track speedskating final is no different.
You can watch online as American Maame Biney, who made history as the first black woman to qualify for the Team USA speedskating team, competes against the best in the world. NBC will live stream the event through their website and app, but cord-cutting services like FuboTV are also here to help. So brew that coffee and settle in to watch history happen.
While the early hour may be annoying for short track fans, they can at least benefit from the knowledge that the events they’re looking for are always on the same day in the United States and Korea. (If you’re in Pyeongchang, you can enjoy the race at the primetime hour of 7 p.m. KT.)
Biney was born in Ghana but moved to America at the age of 5. She also competes in the 1500m race, but the 500m is her specialty. The race is four and a half laps of 111 meters each and it can happen very fast: easily under a minute, the world record is the 43-second range. Unfortunately, it’s hard to know when exactly the race will start so its best to set your alarm and just live stream the whole thing.
