Hopefully, Dillon recovers from his new ink in time to comfortably sit in the driver’s seat of his Chevy Camaro for Atlanta.

With his final lap bump and run pass to win the 2018 Daytona 500, Austin Dillon etched his name on a list of champions that includes the likes of Fireball Roberts, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, Dale Earnhardt (Sr. and Jr.) and Jeff Gordon. But while we can’t confirm it, there’s a good chance that none of those NASCAR legends celebrated quite the same way Dillon did.

According to ESPN’s Bob Pockrass, Dillon and some of his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing teammates got new tattoos in the wee hours of Sunday night — on their butts.

Dillon’s tattoo is supposedly of the Daytona 500 logo with the word “champ” underneath it, but he’s not really showing it off. No word on whether it’s on the right or left cheek.

"“You’ll never be able to see it. It’s pretty cool looking today. [My wife] Whitney is probably the only one that is going to see it for a while.”"

Some of the No. 3 crew members apparently got new tattoos in the same spots, though these were of the “wolfpack” that was an existing team theme. Neither team owner Richard Childress nor crew chief Justin Alexander decided to join them in getting tatted up.

Jokes about the sheer amazingness of choosing a butt tattoo aside, it’s always good to see the Daytona 500 champion find a way to take a piece of a victory in NASCAR’s biggest race with them. They do get the replica version of the Harley J. Earl Trophy, of course, but the winning car is stuck at Daytona International Speedway for a whole year.

At 27, Dillon is plenty young enough not to be in the “I’m going to regret this soon” phase of his life anyway. We just wonder what he’ll consider if he wins more of NASCAR’s marquee races this year, or heave forbid, the NASCAR Cup Series championship.
