Watford sit in the middle of the table with 10 games remaining in the Premier League season. On Saturday, Watford host West Brom at Vicarage Road. West Brom seem destined to be relegated this season. The Baggies are last in the Premier League, seven points behind Crystal Palace and the safety zone.
In Javi Gracia’s first four games as Watford’s manager, the Hornets have picked up seven games. In their last game, Troy Deeney scored the lone goal as Watford beat Everton 1-0. While Gracia has experience success with Watford, he still has to improve the Hornets defense. Only three teams have allowed more goals than Watford. To make up for a poor defense, Watford have scored the eighth-most goals in the Premier League. Despite often playing as a holding midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucouré leads the club with seven goals this season.
West Brom have won only one game since the start of September and have been in the relegation zone since Christmas. Alan Pardew’s side have lost four straight games, conceding 11 goals. In addition to struggling defensively, West Brom have been terrible offensively this season. Only Swansea have scored fewer goals. The decision to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan was a smart decision to add a proven goal scorer. Unfortunately for the Baggies, Sturridge’s injury problems reoccurring. With Sturridge potentially out for a month, Pardew will again lean on José Salomón Rondón and Jay Rodríguez for goals. However, the reason West Brom signed Sturridge was that Rondon and Rodriguez were so ineffective this season. This season, Rondon and Rodriguez have combined for eight goals, but have combined for only two goals in 2018.
