Crystal Palace and Manchester United are at opposite ends of the Premier League table ahead of their game Monday at Selhurst Park. Palace are 17th with 27 points but only goal differential is keeping the Eagles out of the relegation zone. United are second with 59 points but are only two points ahead of Liverpool and six points ahead of fifth place Chelsea.
Crystal Palace have picked up only two points in their last five games, falling from 12th in the table to 17th. Knee injuries have cost Wilfried Zaha eight games this season and he is expected to miss Monday’s game against United. Palace have lost all eight games without Zaha, scoring only one goal without their best offensive player. Without Zaha, Roy Hodgson will lean on Christian Benteke. After scoring 15 goals last season, Benteke has been incredibly disappointing, finding the back of the net only twice last season.
Manchester United have won five of their last seven games, losing to Newcastle and Tottenham. United need to win on Monday to maintain their position in the top four. José Mourinho’s side have allowed the fewest goals in the Premier League this season. However, at times United have struggled scoring goals. Over their last five games, United have been held goalless twice and scored only five times. Alexis Sanchez has struggled to fit in with his new team, scoring only once since joining the club. Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, and Jesse Lingard have combined for 30 goals. However, all three players have been streaky this season. Lukaku has played only three goals in United’s last 10 games. While Martial has scored only three times in United’s last 14 games and Lingard has scored only twice in the last eight games.
