Who do we expect to be the top seeds in the 2018 NCAA Tournament?

The madness of March is upon us at last, as the NCAA Tournament is just a few days away from starting. Before the actual games can tip off, the brackets must first be revealed. Selection Sunday is a time honored tradition of the inevitable being delayed. We get live look-ins on teams that are either the most popular or the most likely to miss the tournament. These reaction shots have become television gold over the years, to the point that schools have turned the day into mini prep-rallies of sorts.

This year’s tournament is going to be highlighted by the bubble and the discussion of who does and does not deserve to receive an invite will likely be the main story to come out of Selection Sunday. Yet, that is not what this post is going to focus on. This article is shedding light on the teams that have been on top of their game all year and are likely to be rewarded for their success with number one seeds.

We’ll take a look region-by-region at the four teams that have the most deserving resumes and why they should receive a number one seed. One team has long separated itself from the rest of the pack, two others have battled all season long for the top honors in their conference and the final is a blue blood program that keeps finding ways to remain among the best teams in the country.

Lastly, there’s an additional team listed as a sleeper. This team has been hanging in the balance all year and, as the conference tournaments come to a close, there’s a shot that they could sneak its way into a one seed come Sunday.

This year’s batch of one seeds aren’t likely to be as strong as ones we’ve seen in the past, but that makes the choices the committee makes in selecting them more interesting to dissect. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the first team likely to be awarded a one seed on Sunday.
