CBS is changing the way they present Selection Sunday to us, and it might not be the best idea.

Selection Sunday is almost like Christmas to college basketball fanatics — the culmination of an entire regular season and conference tournaments. The selection committee finally decides who gets in, and who’s left to watch from home. The bubble teams are left with the most suspense. They’ve played an entire season, racked up some good wins but also some bad losses, and now their fate rests in the hands of the committee. Thanks to CBS things are going to change.

As if they didn’t have to wait long enough. This year it looks like everyone is going to have to suffer through some kind of suspense.

In previous year the show was actually as simple as it could be, and the simplest way is more than likely the smartest way to do things. CBS is getting away from simple, and decided to do the absolute most for the selection show.

The selection show will begin by announcing the entire 68-team field first, and then the release of the brackets and matchups will follow complete with analysis, discussions and interviews. It is without a doubt the most unnecessary change they could possibly come up with.

Everything was fine the original way when you would announce the field region by region, because you’d get the best of both worlds. The bubble teams and their fans would be subject to the suspense of having to possibly sit through three regions before their team shows up on the screen. You also knocked out everyone’s opponent at the same time.

It is unclear why CBS decided to make this change, but hopefully for their sake it works out for the best seeing as it was an unnecessary change.
