STP 500: Watch NASCAR from Martinsville online
By Nick Tylwalk
After a rainy and snowy Saturday, the cars (and trucks) will finally get all their laps in on Monday, so we tell you how to watch a rare Monday NASCAR doubleheader live.
Get ready for more than just the STP 500 from Martinsville Speedway on Monday. No, more laps weren’t added to the first short track race of the season, but rather Mother Nature decided not to allow even Stage 1 of the Truck Series race to be completed on Saturday, necessitating its postponement until Sunday evening.
Then snow fell on the track overnight on Saturday night, and NASCAR ended up postponing both races until Monday. Are you ready for some weekday doubleheader action? The Truck Series will now run first, at 11:00 a.m., with the STP 500 following at its original time of 2:00 p.m. ET.
The rain and snow also washed out NASCAR Cup Series qualifying, meaning that points leader Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch will hold down Row 1, just as they did last week on California. Short track racing isn’t Truex’s strong suit, but he’ll be primed to follow up his first win of the season with a strong performance, and starting from the pole definitely won’t hurt.
Meanwhile, starting for points won’t work out quite as well for Chase Elliott, who saw his first Cup Series victory slip through his fingers last fall after some late race contact from Denny Hamlin. He’ll start the STP 500 from outside the top 20, but look for him to make a charge early on if possible.
