The Masters 2018 leaderboard: Who is leading after round 3?
By Kyle Walton
The third round of the 2018 Masters Tournament is in the books. Let’s take a moment and check out who is toward the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round at Augusta.
Saturdays in golf are referred to as “moving day” for a reason.
While Patrick Reed remained on top after the third round of the Masters, the contenders below him shuffled around all afternoon. Originally thought to be full of rain and misery, the conditions improved just in time for some of The Masters’ top competitors to shoot low scores and put on a highlight reel at Augusta National.
Reed continued his stellar play, following up opening rounds of 69 and 66 with a 5-under round of 67. After an early bogey, the 54-hole leader bounced back with four birdies over his next seven holes. Another bogey crept up but Reed fired back with eagles on 13 and 15.
England’s own Tommy Fleetwood impressed spectators with the early low round of the day. The Southport stand-out rattled off five straight birdies starting at the par-3 12th hole. The lone bogey of the day for Fleetwood dropped him to a round of 66 putting him at 6-under tied for sixth.
Fleetwood’s low round didn’t stand for long as Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler roared through Augusta National Saturday with a purpose. Rahm opened with two straight birdies as well as an eagle at the 8th to jump into contention. Three more birdies down the stretch put Rahm in the clubhouse with 65 and 8-under for the tournament.
Fowler found a similar route to match the tournament’s lowest round of the week. After a surefire eagle at the second hole, Fowler cruised around the course with confidence. Even when he found himself in trouble he scrambled for pars and closed with two birdies in the last four holes to sit in third place.
Here are the top 10 and other notables from the full leaderboard after round two of the 2018 Masters.

It may have been the third 65 to be carded, but Rory McIlroy‘s 7-under Saturday was certainly the most impactful. Three birdies over the first six holes followed by an eagle at the 8th tied McIlroy for the lead at the moment at 9-under. As Reed began to pull away, McIlroy stayed consistent while including birdies at 16 and 18 to finish the day three shots back of the lead.

Sunday at The Masters often becomes the epitome of ‘anything can happen’. Can Reed become the first player to shoot four rounds in the 60s at Augusta and take home the green jacket, or will McIlroy make a run and complete the Grand Slam? While Reed and McIlroy battle it out in a Ryder Cup rematch hungry competitors the likes of Fowler and Rahm will look to cement their careers with a Masters comeback of their own.
