The Yankees added pitcher CC Sabathia and infielder Brandon Drury to the DL following their 14-inning game on Friday.

The New York Yankees may have surpassed the Seattle Mariners in the number of injured players on the team. Following Friday’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees placed that game’s starting pitcher CC Sabathia and infielder Brandon Drury on the DL. What impact will this have on fantasy?

Sabathia pitched just four innings before leaving the game with a right hip strain. He gave up three runs off four hits (three home runs) while striking out three. The bullpen took over as they pitched the final 10 innings and didn’t give up a run until Pedro Alvarez’s grand slam in the 14th.

Sabathia looked like a new man over the last couple of seasons. After pitching to a combined 4.81 ERA and 1.402 WHIP from 2013 to 2015, he averaged a 3.81 ERA and 1.297 WHIP in the next two seasons. Sabathia was being drafted as SP55 in ESPN leagues.

Sabathia underwent an MRI, which revealed no structural damage, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. With the Yankees being off Monday, Sabathia could miss just one start. He will be eligible to return on April 17. If you own him, place him on the DL for the time being. You should monitor this injury for the first couple of weeks after his return, make sure he can last more than four innings.

In the meantime, Tyler Mahle of the Cincinnati Reds had an impressive first start and is owned in just 23.0 percent of leagues. He faces the Pirates on Sunday.

As for Drury, he is dealing with severe migraines. He left the game in the sixth inning with migraines and impaired vision. There is no exact guideline for an injury like this but he could just miss the minimum 10 days.

Drury went undrafted in ESPN leagues and his ownership is at 19.5 percent. If you own him, it’s likely in AL-only or very deep leagues. You can likely find a replacement of his caliber on the waiver wire. This will likely give top prospect Miguel Andujar more playing time in the process.

The Yankees already have Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury, Billy McKinney, Greg Bird and Clint Frazier on the DL. Catcher Gary Sanchez dealt with calf cramps but seems to be fine.

The Yankees entered the season with a lot of depth. However, just 10 days into the season, that seems to be wiped out. Luckily, it’s early in the season so these players will have a majority of the season left. If you own either one, stash them unless you can find a big upgrade on the waiver.
