Fortnite update brings new gun, new game and new (and old) problems

Fortnite’s newest update brings us a new gun, a new game mode and some new frustrations to go along with some of the ones we’ve been experiencing.

Early this morning, Fortnite updated to version 3.5.2, adding a new light machine gun, a 50 vs. 50 game mode and some other minor adjustments and bug fixes. Many gamers were waiting for a heavily theorized update that is set to destroy (or at least alter)  the game’s most popular location, “Tilted Towers,” yesterday, but they’ll have to wait a little longer.

Tilted is still standing and the meteor crash landing we were all expecting likely won’t occur until the end of the season, on April 30 (rumor has it that the next battle pass season theme is going to be dinosaurs).

While the meteor has been the talk of the week, gamers are also noticing some new problems with the game’s most recent update. The game is freezing at inopportune times, traps occasionally won’t go off, and some all-too-familiar server issues are occurring (which Epic is ratifying by giving you 20 free battle stars).

If you are experiencing these issues, you are not alone. The world’s most popular Fortnite streamer, Ninja, took to Twitter to vent some of his frustrations with the game glitching:

This is a minor problem for Epic Games, as Ninja is their most popular player. He’s amassed over five million twitch followers and takes in over $800,000 a month playing the game. In other words, if he is tweeting about it, you know that it’s serious.

Epic has announced that they are working through the bugs and server issues, as is normal when a new update occurs. It’s to be expected that when a game reaches this level of popularity, there will be a few issues. Especially considering this game is free.

Let’s give them a few hours to sort through the bugs and patch-in some fixes. The game is wildly popular right now and most of us are anticipating big things in the near future. For now, enjoy the new light machine gun and the return of the limited time 50 vs. 50 mode (which is fun as hell).

Update 3.5.2 additions

Light machine gun (LMG)

The LMG is a rapid firing 100-round-per-clip beast that is seemingly a mix between an assault rifle and a minigun. The new gun takes medium sized ammunition and deals 25 (rare) or 26 (epic) damage per round. The downside to the LMG is that it’s reload time is roughly five seconds.

Limited time 50 vs. 50 game mode

The new 50 vs. 50 game mode splits the group of 100 into two buses. The buses will travel in separate directions and teams will drop into the map, have 10 minutes to loot, then five minutes to fight followed by five minutes of the storm closing. There will be a “battle line” in the center of the map that you may cross at your own risk. You can read about it in more detail here. Try it out, it is a ton of fun.

Hopefully Epic gets these issues sorted out quickly. I’m sure they will have a lot more on their plate with the new season (and meteor impact) approaching.
