Yankees Miguel Andujar on fire at the plate: Waiver Wire Add?
By Brad Kelly
Miguel Andujar is having a historic stretch right now for the Yankees at the plate. Can owners now pick him up off the waiver wire?
The Yankees offense is starting to heat up in large part to contributions from top to bottom in the order. There are no hotter hitters in the league than Miguel Andujar and he is looking the part of one of the young cornerstones the Yanks banked on. But, can fantasy owners trust him off the waiver wire?
Andujar was hyped as a potential breakout candidate for the Yankees this season as he was slotted to be the starter at third. He got off to a slow start to the season, but Brandon Drury’s injury opened the door for him to remain in the lineup and get continual at-bats.
He has repaid the Yanks with an unreal stretch at the plate, going 11 for 24 and notching three homers and seven RBI. He tied the likes of Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle as the only Yankees to notch seven straight games with a XBH.

Andujar is lauded for his lightning quick hands and his contact ability, and that is finally shining through. His eight doubles lead the AL, and he is 80% contact rate shows that his bat skill has made its way to the majors.
In his batted ball profile, there are certainly encouraging signs. His 16% LD rate is steadily climbing, his 41% FB rate is solid for Yankee stadium, and he is posting 33% Medium and 41% Hard contact rates.
He is a free swinger, but he has only struck out nine times compared to two walks this season. With the Yankees’ lineup rolling and Andujar hotter than anyone, he is a must add off the waiver wire.
With Gleyber Torres now in the majors, Drury’s eventual return may scare some owners off. But, Torres can stick at second, and Neil Walker and Drury can split time as super utility players. The Yankees hesitancy to rid of Andujar in trade talks show they seem him highly, offering them no reason to not play him.
