With a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Wednesday, Huddersfield officially secured a place in the Premier League next season. Laurent Depoitre gave the Terriers the lead in the 50th minute and they held on after an onslaught from the opposition. Huddersfield have had a tumultuous season overall, but their only goal was to stay in the top flight, and now that goal is complete. David Wagner’s side collected two points from Manchester City and Chelsea to ensure they didn’t need a result against Arsenal on the final day.
Arsenal also have nothing to play for in terms of league play, but this is Arsene Wenger’s final match as the Gunner’s manager, so it will be an emotional one either way. Arsenal sent him out in style in their last home game, thrashing Burnley 5-0 in an appropriately Wenger-ball style. However, they won’t want to leave the season on a sour note, as their 3-1 loss away to Leicester means that they still have not picked up a single away point in the new year. That’s astounding, and the Gunners will only have one more shot to put that embarrassing statistic behind them.
