The Premier League season comes to an end on Sunday, with Newcastle hosting Chelsea at St James’ Park. The Magpies do not have much to play for on Sunday. Newcastle are locked into a mid-table finish. Chelsea can still finish in the top four and clinch a Champions League spot. If the Blues win and Liverpool loses, Chelsea would qualify for Champions League next season.
Newcastle clinched Premier League survival weeks ago and they might have taken their foot off of the gas with nothing to play for. Rafa Benitez’s side can’t qualify for Europa League and are locked into a mid-table spot. The Magpies have lost four straight games scoring only one goal. However, Newcastle could play spoiler on Sunday. If the Magpies take points from Chelsea they will prevent the Blues from qualifying for Champions League.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield on Wednesday. Antonio Conte’s side are unbeaten in their last five games, picking up 11 points. Even if Chelsea qualify for Champions League, it might not be enough for Conte to keep his job. However, that is if Conte even wants to remain with Chelsea. The Blues saved Eden Hazard’s legs on Wednesday, bringing the Belgian international off of the bench. Hazard leads the club with 12 goals and will be Chelsea’s go-to man on Sunday.
