Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is happening in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.
Fortnite Friday is a new weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multi-player showdown game, Fortnite Battle Royale. Every Friday, we’ll provide you with a cheat sheet for the weekly battle pass challenges, a “spark notes” version of the updates, new game modes, as well as some highlights from the week’s game play.
This week we are hopping into shopping carts (which are super fun), the “Teams of 20” and “Blitz” LTMs are back and the battle pass Week 5 challenges are slightly easier than last week’s. Let’s start with those:
Battle pass challenges: Week 5
1. Deal damage with SMGs to opponents (0/500) – The SMG is an underrated weapon in the game. Perhaps not anymore as many gamers will be forced to use it for this challenge and see that it works really well. RIP, SMG-lovers.
2. Search chests in Dusty Divot (0/7) – What did we ever do to you, Epic? Making players drop into the chaos that is Dusty Divot is pretty mean. If you’re not big on immediate action, save this one until the end of the week.
3. Use a vending machine (0/3) – Easy and about as self explanatory as it gets. The vending machines are scattered all over the map. My personal favorite is on the West side of Lucky Landing as it’s usually gold (you may want to hold off on landing there right away though – See: 7). Here’s a map of the general machine locations.
4. Dance with others to raise the disco ball near Loot Lake (0/1) – Definitely do this one in squads, unless you want to give someone in solo an easy kill. The dance floors are in the factory at the edge of loot lake, four players will have to dance on four corners of a dance floor until the disco ball raises to the top. Grab a weapon because you may have to clear out another squad (before they get you first).
5. Follow the treasure map found in Greasy Grove (0/1) – Here is your free battle star location:
6. Minigun or Light Machine Gun eliminations (0/2) – Use the LMG unless you want to be doing this task forever. My friend Jeff loves the minigun so much that he’ll use it in shootouts that don’t involve any building. Probably why we lose so much …
7. Eliminate opponents in Lucky Landing (0/3) – There is usually quick and decent loot at the Southeast building in Lucky. Glide in through a window, grab a weapon and start shooting.
Limited time game modes
Teams of 20 LTM – This is basically a mix between your 50 v 50 and Squads. There are five teams of 20 going at it. It’s fun if you want to mix it up once in a while. There are five battle busses coming in to keep teams relatively close.
Blitz LTM – Blitz is a great LTM and they brought it back (likely) due to popular demand. In the Blitz LTM, the storm is faster, there is more loot and the bus flies lower, so it takes less time to drop in. The entire game is played in less than half the time of a regular game and it’s pure chaos (the storm closes fully in 15 minutes). If you love stress and hate strategy, Blitz is your game. You can play both squad and solo in this mode.
Blitz is also great if you are short for time but a full blown Fortnite addict (like myself). I played five matches while on my lunch break yesterday. It’s all killer no filler.
E3 2018: Fortnite Pro-Am
We covered this slightly in last week’s column but Epic has added a bunch more duo’s since then. This tournament is going to be fun. While some of these celebs are a little less recognizable, they are still bigger than any celebrity reality show is pulling in.

Update v4.3 patch notes
Shopping Carts – These. Are. Fun. If you are not having a good time with the new shopping carts, you are not using them right. So far, the best two uses have been shopping cart jousting and turning the cart into a death machine by filling it with C4 and barreling into the action. Here are examples of each:

The reception to these has been great and the video replays even better. Seriously. Get creative with the shopping carts because they can be both useful and a lot of fun to mess around with.

Mushrooms – Magic mushrooms (not that kind) are now scattered throughout the map in wooded and swampy areas. Like the Apples that were introduced a few weeks back, the mushrooms will boost your shield by 5 points. These are a great addition as you can usually find at least 10 in any given area.
Challenge progression – This is one that I noticed before knowing it was coming. Challenge tasks will now show up on your screen in game once you have completed them. This is great for the challenges that involve a certain number of chests in an area or a numbered task in a game. Great move by the Fortnite team adding this in.
Shopping carts were the main event for this update. If you’d like to read the detailed version, grab it here.
Elimination of the week
This week’s EOTW comes from DBrutxL who should probably not be trying out for any X Games big air events until he can straighten that take-off a little. That’s right, shopping cart big air ramps are also a thing now:
