The familiar faces from the Denver Nuggets’ powder blue and yellow days are long gone. So, they’re updating their color scheme to fit their new era.

The Denver Nuggets are ushering in a new wave of fresh, young talent. Young stars Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Gary Harris are coming into their own and are all entering their age-24 or younger seasons. Gone are the days of Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, and Kenyon Martin from the late 2000s. The striking powder blue threads that Denver wore had lost their luster.

The Nuggets recently began to phase the powder blue out of their color scheme. Their 2017-18 uniforms relied more heavily on a deep navy blue than on its powder counterpart.

Now, as uniform and logo aficionado Conrad Burry reports, they’re taking a head-first dive into the threads of their past. First, they’ll be permanently banishing the powder blue in exchange for the navy. But more notably, they’ll incorporate a shade of burgundy to add a new theme to the brand.

On Friday, Burry got his hands on a photo of the Nuggets official cap for the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft.

The new color scheme isn’t so much an ode to Denver’s famed jerseys from the ’70s and ’80s — which some have called the greatest NBA jerseys of all time. Those featured more of a true red than a burgundy — oh, and every other color of the rainbow.

But this new color scheme aligns with Denver’s ’90s getups, a stylistic decision that could help get in better touch with the fanbase. After all, the Colorado state flag is navy blue, yellow, burgundy and white.

Burry also reported that the team will use a new typeface for the spelling out of “Denver Nuggets.” Three updated secondary logos will be used, as well.
