A new profile video by Autoblog takes fans inside the mind of Team Penske’s Joey Logano and provides insight into the competitive streak that drives him.

Of all the current Monster Energy Cup Series stars, Team Penske driver Joey Logano is one of the hardest to pigeonhole. At 28, he doesn’t fit all that neatly into the “young guns vs. old guard” narrative the sport has been pushing. He carries a tad of the gee whiz air that someone whose first NASCAR nickname was “Sliced Bread,” but he’s no pushover and definitely shy about speaking his mind.

And while Logano isn’t nearly as divisive as someone like Kyle Busch, it’s tough to get a handle on him. What exactly is he about?

How about winning?

Autoblog editor Jonathon Buckley recently spent a day with Logano and got to pick his brain about what motivates him and how he trains for the rigors of NASCAR Cup Series racing. Buckley also got to see Logano’s incredible car collection, which includes a functional Model T, his old ASA car made street legal (though not without repeated skepticism from law enforcement, apparently) and one special ride that helped him propose to the woman who is now his wife.

More from NASCAR

More than anything, though, Logano’s competitive nature comes through. Even when talking to Buckley at the gym while showing off some of his in-season workout regimen, the No. 22 Ford driver managed to turn it into a bit of a showdown.

It’s fitting, then, that when asked if he still enjoys racing on its own merits, Logano said he does — but that getting to Victory Lane is still the most important thing as he competes in his 10th season at the sport’s top level.

“The passion to win has been like that from the get-go,” Logano said to Buckley. “The racing part, I enjoy, right? But the winning part is what this is all about.

“It’s always been about winning and taking home the trophy.”

Be sure to watch the entire Autoblog video for a peek at Logano’s awesome garage, his description of how important the communication is between driver and crew chief, and much more. If you leave it with a slightly more fully formed opinion of Logano, we wouldn’t blame you at all.
