1. Caleb Martin (Nevada)

The Mountain West Conference Player of the Year just spend a year at Nevada after two seasons at NC State and helped to completely change the culture there.

The team got off to an 18-3 start, the second-best in school history, and Martin was one of the key reasons why. He poured in nearly 19 points per game and became a vocal leader on both ends of the floor. He’s a rangy forward with some guard skills and the tenacity to become a solid defender at the NBA level. On that end, he has great instincts and uses his size and feet well to bother his assignments.

Playing off the ball alongside an elite passer in Lonzo Ball and a gifted, unselfish playmaker in Brandon Ingram will give the Lakers the kind of offensive flow they were missing from wings at various parts of the season. He’s excellent moving off the ball and can generate his own shot with the ball in his hands.

Where the Lakers could use him most is as a spot-up shooter. Nevada used him the way the Warriors use Klay Thompson. He’s at his best when he’s running off screens and catching the ball ready to shoot. Martin shot 40 percent from downtown on nearly seven attempts. He would be an excellent fit in the Blue and Gold.

Side note: His twin brother, Cody, would also be a great fit for the Lakers, but is projected to go late in the second round. Lakers pick in the middle of the second round. It would be something if they grabbed both.
