Penguins classily congratulate Capitals on their Stanley Cup victory
The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins showed their admiration for the Stanley Cup-winning team that ended their attempt at a threepeat.
It’s been a weird postseason for Pittsburgh Penguins fans.
First, the Washington Capitals knocked them out of the playoffs, taking away any feelings of superiority the Pens had earned over D.C. in one fell swoop.
Then, Penguins fans could only sit back and watch as the Capitals continued advancing and ultimately won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Well, on the evening of the Caps’ victory, the Penguins’ Twitter account decided to put away any lingering salt the organization may still be harboring and congratulate the Capitals on their well-earned achievement.
It was a classy move from a franchise that had just won two Stanley Cups in a row. Frankly, that is the same tact Penguins fans should be taking as well. A little begrudging respect never hurt anybody.

Plus, the Penguins also have the best consolation any team that didn’t win the Stanley Cup could ask for: being beaten by the eventual champions. It makes not winning feel slightly more tolerable given the knowledge that the team that took them out was clearly destined for bigger things this year.
Plus, Penguins Jesus said he is happy for Alexander Ovechkin. And Penguin Jesus’ word is law.
Though, as Penguins Jesus also reminded me, none of this good will is extended toward Tom Wilson, who actively tries to hurt the other team’s players. No amount of praying can repair his reputation in the eyes of Pens fans.
