DraftKings MLB Picks June 11: Is Jose Quintana a lock tonight?

We have eight games tonight, which means a little more than half the league is in action. There are solid options at every pitching tier tonight, which should leave us some pretty diverse lineups despite the truncated slate. Where can we win some money? Let’s break this down!

More from DFS

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

PHOENIX, AZ – MAY 14: Patrick Corbin #46 of the Arizona Diamondbacks delivers a first inning pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers at Chase Field on May 14, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images)

Top Tier:

Patrick Corbin ($11,200): Corbin is one of those guys that you can just throw past stats out for this year. 2018 is easily his breakout year. The Pirates are not a great offense, and Corbin has a 2.94 ERA a home with 62 strikeouts in just 46 innings. Corbin easily has the best potential tonight because of strikeouts alone.

Carlos Carrasco ($10,700): The only reason that Carrasco is on here is because he is guaranteed the four points for a win. The White Sox have actually hit Carrasco hard despite the .235 average. They have five homers and 14 runs in only 85 at bats against Carrasco. With Giolito toeing the rubber for Chicago, that spots Carrasco four points. However, he does have 23 strikeouts in in those 85 at bats. Carrasco should still come up with a solid score should the White Sox get some runs off of him.

Andrew Heaney ($9,100): Heaney, fresh off of a one hit shutout of the Royals last week, gets a Seattle team that only mustered one run off of him in his one career start against them. I’m a little nervous about using Heaney with that righty heavy lineup, especially with so many other options out there. However, Heaney could rack up strong numbers here for a reasonable price.

Middle Tier:

Jack Flaherty ($8,300): Flaherty has never faced the Padres, but I think he will like what he sees. He hasn’t been all that sharp lately, so that is a concern. Both the Marlins and Pirates hit him pretty well at homer over his last two starts, but I just don’t see anything in this Padres lineup that says they can do the same.

Jose Quintana ($8,100): Quintana has not been all that good at Wrigley as a Cub, but his road numbers have been good. This year it has been more of the same with Quintana posting a very nice 2.62 ERA on the road. He has dominated Milwaukee this year, racking up 58.4 DraftKings points in just two starts against the Beermakers this year. He has 13 shutout innings against the Brewers. In fact, the current Brewers lineup has only scored eight runs in 174 at bats against Quintana with no home runs. Lock in Quintana here. I think he outscores the whole upper tier.

Sam Gaviglio ($7,300): I’m not all that crazy about Gaviglio because he has been much better at home, but I will make an exception here. His road starts were in Boston and Philly. This one in is Tampa. That alone gives Gaviglio potential. He shut out the Yankees for seven innings in his last start, so I do expect ownership on Gaviglio to be pretty high. However, no one else offers this much potential at this low of a price. We may have to eat the chalk.

Bargain Pitchers:

Junior Guerra ($7,000): You want dominant numbers tonight? Look no further. The Cubs are hitting just .152 against Guerra in 66 at bats with just one homer and three runs to go with 20 strikeouts. I don’t understand why Guerra is always so low priced. He is about as consistent as they come.

Wade LeBlanc ($6,600): Using a soft tossing lefty against a team that can hit like the Angels is always a risk. However, the current Angels are only hitting .186 in 59 at bats against LeBlanc with only homer, but seven runs. The low strikeout totals on LeBlanc means that he can’t bail you out if he gives up a few runs.

Ryan Yarbrough ($5,600): Yarbrough has been the de facto starter every fifth day even though he has come in in the second inning. The Rays are actually going to give him the starting nod tonight. Will that help or hurt Yarbrough here? For this low of a price, it’s worth finding out. The Blue Jays offense is still mostly struggling without Donaldson.

Wei-Yin Chen ($4,700): What is Chen doing on here? Well, his splits are HUGE. Chen has a 10.31 ERA in five road starts, and a sparkling 1.06 ERA in three home starts. The Giants are only hitting .222 off of him, and if you take out Longoria, the team is just 5-32 with no homers and five runs. Chen doesn’t pick up a lot of strikeouts, so there is risk here. However, he has bordered on great in Marlins Park and this is not a very good offense. There is potential here.

BOSTON, MA – MAY 17: Jackie Bradley Jr. #19 high fives J.D. Martinez #28 of the Boston Red Sox after scoring in the fifth inning of a game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on May 17, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty Images)

Baltimore Orioles vs. Steven Wright:

Wright has only given up four runs over 23 innings this season. Two of them were to the Orioles. Many teams have not had success against Wright. Baltimore hasn’t had that problem. The Orioles are hitting .282 with nine homers and 19 runs in just 85 at bats against Wright. Jonathan Schoop is 5-12 with three solo homers off of Wright. Trey Mancini is 2-5 against Wright. Both hits are homers, and he has driven in five. Adam Jones also has two homers and five RBI off of Wright, but he is only 4-16. Valencia and Chris Davis have the other two homers.

Boston Red Sox vs. Dylan Bundy:

Bundy has an ugly 4.78 ERA at home, and has allowed seven runs (five earned) in only 11.2 innings vs. Boston this year. The strikeouts have salvaged his game scores, and if this were a road game, I may even consider using Bundy. However, Boston is hitting .294 with six homers and 20 runs in 143 at bats against Bundy. Jackie Bradley, J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, Sandy Leon, Xander, and Benintendi have all homered against Bundy in their careers. Bundy has given up 16 homers in 13 starts this year. Someone is taking him deep.

Cleveland Indians vs. Lucas Giolito:

The Indians piled up five runs in six innings against Giolito earlier this year. Jose Ramirez and Michael Brantley both homered off of him in that game. Lindor and Yonder Alonso both drove in runs as well. As for the last piece of the stack, Jason Kipnis and Edwin both look like good candidates.

ST LOUIS, MO – MAY 4: Tommy Pham #28 of the St. Louis Cardinals hits a three-run home run during the second inning against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on May 4, 2018 in St Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Jeff Curry/Getty Images)

Top Tier:

I don’t think I’m ready to stack against Jordan Lyles just yet. The move away from Coors has done him pretty well so far, even though he was pulverized by the Braves last week. I do like Tommy Pham tonight, who is 3-5 with a solo homer against Lyles so far. Dexter Fowler has homered off of Lyles as well. Jose Martinez and Matt Carpenter are worth a look as well.

I like what Joe Musgrove has done with the Pirates so far, but I don’t trust him in Arizona. That is a tough place to pitch. Arizona is hitting again, most notably Paul Goldschmidt. I don’t expect a poor performance from Musgrove, but I also expect his worst of his four starts this year. Give me Goldy and Jake Lamb here.

Middle Tier:

MadBum was decent in his first start of the year, but he was understandably knocking some rust off. I think that will be the case again tonight. I’m in no hurry to pony up five figures for a guy that is rusty, and really hasn’t pitched well against the Marlins in his career. Starlin Castro is 14-30(.467) with a steal, two runs, and three RBI against Bumgarner. Cameron Maybin is the only current Marlin to homer off of him.

Kyle Schwarber is the only Cub to homer off of Guerra so far. I think he is about the only Cub I would use tonight.

Jose Abreu is the main reason that Carrasco’s numbers aren’t all that great against Chicago. Abreu is ony; 8-37(.216) off of Carrasco, but he has two homers and eight RBI. Adam Engel, Tim Anderson, and the Sanchez formerly known as Carlos have all homered off of Carrasco as well.

Teoscar Hernandez and Yangervis Solarte are worth a look against Yarbrough tonight even though Yarbrough held the Blue Jays to just one hit in five innings against them earlier this season.

Evan Longoria hasn’t been all that good this year, but he is 11-40(.275) with two homers and six RBI against Wei-Yin Chen. If he is going to have a big game, it will likely be here.

Mitch Haniger is the only Mariner to drive in a run against Andrew Heaney. It was on a solo homer.

Bargain Shoppers:

Albert Pujols is the only current Angel to hit a homer off of Wade LeBlanc. However, Mike Trout has never faced LeBlanc, so he could be worth a look. If you are high on Justin Upton, keep in mind that he is just 2-22 against LeBlanc in his career.
