6. Three-Headed Monsters (2017 Record: 6-2)

I’ll be the first to acknowledge that I’m being a bit disrespectful to the Monsters here; they finished second in the league, and had the league’s MVP in Lewis. So, why the low spot for them? Because I can’t help but think they’ve been passed by in talent by a few teams this season. They still have Lewis, but beyond that, it’s a bit of a thin roster, with guys like Kwame Brown and Salim Stoudemire not necessarily inspiring a ton of fear in opponents. Reggie Evans returns as co-captain, and it’ll be interesting what he brings in year two; he’s a frustrating inside player (seriously, I used to hate him when he was on the Clippers), and one of the best rebounders in the league, but he also has a limited offensive game, and it remains to be seen how much foul trouble will prevent him from seeing the court.

With only one pick in the draft, the Monsters lone selection was Stoudemire, who is a decade removed from his last NBA action. Elsewhere, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was an electric player during his NBA days, but at 49, it remains to be seen how much hops he could possibly still have in the tank. This is an interesting team to be certain, but when I consider how much better certain other teams got, and the fact that they only managed to outscore teams by about four points a game last season, it feels like the Monsters are due for a significant drop in their sophomore season.
