J.J. Redick is getting another sizable one-year contract from the Philadelphia 76ers after a strong season with the up-and-coming club.

With the LeBron James chase over, the Philadelphia 76ers quickly turned to veteran sharpshooter J.J. Redick to get a new deal done. The result is another one-year contract that will pay Redick $12-to-13 million for next season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Sixers pried Redick away from the Los Angeles Clippers last summer with a massive one-year deal worth $23 million. The 34-year-old responded with one of the finest seasons of his career. He put up a career-high 17.1 points on 42 percent 3-point shooting as Philadelphia took a huge step forward in The Process by winning 52 games and reaching the second round of the playoffs. He recorded 18.2 points per game in the postseason.

If the Sixers aren’t able to trade for Kawhi Leonard or make any other significant moves, they’ll be running back their same starting lineup of Redick, Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Robert Covington and Dario Saric. That certainly isn’t a bad thing given that unit outscored opponents by 21.4 points per 100 possessions in 600 regular-season minutes, per NBA.com. They were the most effective high-minute lineup in the league.

Philadelphia has lost key veterans Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova in free agency, but there’s still flexibility after this Redick deal to add more depth. The Sixers still have about $13 million in cap space to play with, plus the room exception worth about $4.45 million. They also will be hoping for Markelle Fultz to rediscover his game and make the impact of a No. 1 pick.

Redick’s one-year deal will also keep open flexibility for next summer. If Philadelphia takes another step forward, the situation only becomes more attractive to outside players, and the team will have money to play with once again. This is just another reason why bringing back Redick was a no-brainer once LeBron decided to head to Los Angeles.
