Florida Gator great Tim Tebow will be honored as he returns to Gainesville this October.

Tim Tebow is arguably one of the greatest college football players of all time. During his career at Florida, Tebow became one of the biggest faces in college football. He won two National Championships and the 2007 Heisman Trophy and collected several more honors including the Maxwell, Davey O’Brien and Manning awards. He was also a two-time All-American two-time SEC Player of the Year. With his strong faith on display to the world, the Gator quarterback quickly became one of the most popular athletes.

Now, nine years later, Tebow will return to “The Swamp” to be inducted into Florida’s Ring of Honor when his old team faces the LSU Tigers on October 6th. He will join five other Florida football alumni. Former quarterback and head coach Steve Spurrier, running back Emmitt Smith, quarterback Danny Wuerffel, defensive end Jack Youngblood, and linebacker Wilber Marshall are the only Gators who have been enshrined so far.

Since being drafted 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in 2010, Tebow’s NFL career has been filled with highs and lows. After leading Denver to an overtime playoff win over the Steelers, he was traded to the Jets and last had stints with the Patriots and Eagles in training camp before being released both times.

After being cut by New England in 2013, Tebow joined the SEC Network as an analyst where he still remains today. Along with sports broadcasting, Tebow plays outfield for the New York Mets in the minor leagues. He currently plays for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in Double-A.

While his football career has not quite panned out the way most would have thought after 2011, Tebow is still widely regarded as a college football legend. His induction into Florida’s Ring of Honor at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is one Gator fans have been anticipating for years.
