A fan put all of his trust in Phil Mickelson not hitting him in the face with a miraculous trick shot ahead of The Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Phil Mickelson has long been known as a wizard on and around the green … well, at least if you don’t count that crazy putting meltdown last month at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Mickelson, a five-time major champion, has given golf fans around the world so many great shots and moments that it would be impossible to put them all in one place. His creativity and use of imagination has been a wonder to watch on the PGA Tour for more than a quarter of a century and his risk-taking on some of those shots has both won and lost him tournaments. Either way, there’s no denying that he’s an absolute magician when it comes to trick shots. We’re talking about a guy that can hit a golf ball backwards. Don’t remember that one?

Unbelievable. You’re not going to see that at your Saturday morning romp at the local muni. But Lefty has maybe upped the ante a little bit. Okay, it’s not John Daly hitting a golf ball out of someone’s mouth. Yeah, seriously, that’s a thing.

However, as seemingly a part of Phil Mickelson’s preparation for the 147th edition of The Open Championship at Carnoustie, a patron put a lot of trust in the 2013 champ by standing directly in front of him as Mickelson took a full swing with a lob wedge. Take a look.

Wow. Just think of how wrong that could have gone. And it pains me to have to say this but don’t try this at home, kids.

Think magic like that will be enough to win Phil another Claret Jug? We’ll find out when he tees it up alongside Satoshi Kodaira and Rafa Cabrera-Bello at 3:03 a.m. Eastern on Thursday.
