The Jimmy Butler vs Minnesota Timberwolves saga is getting more and more intense.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jimmy Butler has made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with playing for the team this year. He requested a trade and the organization has been unwilling or unable to accommodate his wishes.

He had an eventful first practice of the season, to say the least, and now it seems that Karl-Anthony Towns can only play well when Butler isn’t in the lineup. All Butler wants is to win and he’s decided he doesn’t want to do that in Minnesota. Today, it was announced that he might be sitting out until an actual trade is completed.

Now Butler isn’t playing any games. Butler plans to sit out Wednesday night’s game again the Utah Jazz, the latest saga in his six-week attempt to get out of Minnesota.

Not only is he sitting on Wednesday, but he could end up sitting out multiple games until he gets what he desires.

This shouldn’t come as a shock to the franchise. Butler made it very clear what he wanted, and they didn’t make it happen. The Timberwolves reportedly had a chance to make it happen when the Houston Rockets offered them four first-round picks for Butler, but they didn’t bite on that offer.

Butler is going to be a free agent this offseason, and I would venture to guess that Minnesota is not a preferred destination for him. The Wolves have an opportunity to get something for him rather than lose him for nothing. Four first-round picks aren’t offered up very often, and even though they’d be Houston’s picks that’s still a lot to pass up.

We will see how long Butler actually sits out, and if the organization actually trades him before this gets really ugly.
