4. Bashaud Breeland, CB, Green Bay Packers

The Falcons will be in the market for a second cornerback this offseason. Brian Poole and Justin Bethel are unrestricted free agents, and the team just recently announced the release of veteran Robert Alford.

Unfortunately, this is not the year to need cornerbacks. Well, the draft has some promise, but the 2019 free agent class doesn’t necessarily have any “must have” corners.

Although, Bashaud Breeland would be worth exploring and signing. He had some contract and health snafu last offseason that left him on the market longer than expected. But he did eventually ink a deal with the Green Bay Packers in season.

The team still has Desmond Trufant and he is still playing at a high-level at age 28. Therefore, Breeland can serve as a second corner, a role he played in Green Bay.

In seven games with the Packers, Breeland had two interceptions and four passes defended. In his first four seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins, he had eight interceptions and 60 passes defended in 60 games.

Breeland would also benefit from the surrounding talent the Falcons will have in the secondary in 2019. The safety positions will be much more consistent with Neal and Allen back from injury. With Breeland and a healthy group of defensive backs, the Falcons can put their 27th ranked pass defense in 2018 behind them.
