NHL Trade Deadline Recap: Who went where, who stayed put?

Let’s explore where the National Hockey League’s primary trade bait pieces ended up by the conclusion of deadline day.

With the Feb. 25th trade deadline now a thing of the past, fans of the NHL await the impact — both short and long-term — of dynamic-altering moves on the sport.

Many of the league’s hottest commodities — Mark Stone, Matt Duchene, Ryan Dzingel, Wayne Simmonds, Kevin Hayes, Mikael Granlund and the Winnipeg Jets’ first-round selection, among others — found new homes, while the future of several of its most prized assets remain up in the air. As they say, another tale for another time.

And so it goes.

Let’s have a look at where the league’s primary trade bait pieces ended up. (Note that the list below is based off FanSided’s Feb. 22nd trade bait board.)

  1. Mark Stone (RW, OTT) — traded to the Vegas Golden Knights (along with Tobias Lindberg) for Erik Brannstrom, Oscar Lindberg and a 2020 second-round pick
  2. Matt Duchene (C, OTT) — traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets (along with Julius Bergman) for Vitaly Abramov, Jonathan Davidsson and a 2019 or 2020 first-round selection, as well as a conditional first-round pick
  3. Artemi Panarin (LW, CBJ) 
  4. Winnipeg Jets’ first-round pick in the 2019 draft — traded to the New York Rangers, along with Brendan Lemieux, a 2019 first-round selection and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2022 for Kevin Hayes
  5. Wayne Simmonds (RW, PHI) — traded to the Nashville Predators for Ryan Hartman and a conditional fourth-round selection in 2020
  6. Kevin Hayes (C, NYR) — traded to the Winnipeg Jets for Brendan Lemieux, a 2019 first-round selection and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2022
  7. Mats Zuccarello (RW, NYR) — traded to the Dallas Stars for a conditional 2019 second-round pick and a conditional 2020 third-round selection
  8. Ryan Dzingel (LW, OTT) — traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets (along with a 2019 seventh-round pick) for Anthony Duclair, a 2020 second-round selection and a 2021 second-round pick
  9. Gustav Nyquist (RW, DET) — traded to the San Jose Sharks for a second-rounder in 2019 and a 2020 conditional pick in the third-round
  10. Jimmy Howard (G, DET)
  11. Sergei Bobrovsky (G, CBJ)
  12. Michael Ferland (LW, CAR)
  13. Nick Jensen (D, DET) — traded to the Washington Capitals (along with a 2019 fifth-round selection) for Madison Bowey and a 2020 second-rounder
  14. Marcus Johansson (LW, NJD) — traded to the Boston Bruins for a 2019 second-round selection and a 2020 fourth-round pick
