Odell Beckham trade makes Browns legit Super Bowl contenders
The Cleveland Browns went all in to trade for Odell Beckham Jr. and now find themselves as legit Super Bowl contenders.
The Cleveland Browns made a stunning move on the eve of the new league year, trading for New York Giants superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a move that makes them Super Bowl contenders.
The Giants had expressed some interest in trading Beckham, and there was talk earlier today about an AFC North team making a push. The Browns gave enough of one, and they landed the most talented player they’ve had in a long time. This move is not only a blockbuster, but it makes the Browns legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
Cleveland instantly becomes the AFC North favorite after acquiring Beckham. With the Steelers reeling after losing Antonio Brown and the Ravens losing plenty of players to free agency, the Browns look ready to capture the division.
Their odds to win the AFC went from 12-1 to 7-1 with only New England and Kansas City having better odds. Their Super Bowl odds went from 25-1 down to 14-1.
Adding Beckham to an offense featuring Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry, and David Njoku gives quarterback Baker Mayfield a fantastic group to work with. Combine that with the way they finished 2018, they look poised to make the jump in 2019 with Freddie Kitchens leading the way.
But let’s not stop at just a division title in 2019. Adding a superstar of Beckham’s caliber makes an already good offense even better. The defense has also improved this offseason with the additions of Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson. This group has enough firepower to challenge the Patriots, Chiefs, Chargers and the AFC’s elite.
The Chiefs still lack a lot on defense, and the Patriots are no longer head and shoulders above everyone like they used to be. The Browns have the talent right now to contend with the best of the conference.
A young quarterback with the talent and confidence, a superstar addition, and plenty of offseason left to add pieces, this Browns football team is ready to be considered Super Bowl contenders.
