Now that the first wave of NFL free agency and the draft have concluded, what rosters provide the best fits for the top remaining free agents?

8. Eric Berry and Cleveland Browns

We wrote after the first wave of free agency that the former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro would make a lot of sense for the Cleveland Browns, and the signing would still makes a lot of sense. Berry still finds himself available despite terrific production and a remarkable comeback from a torn ACL, cancer, and a torn Achilles. However, the last two years have mostly been lost to Achilles and heel injuries.

The Browns are currently slated to start Damarious Randall and Morgan Burnett at safety. For a team looking to make the jump in to the AFC playoff picture, that could prove to be an issue. Neither player is elite, and while both are slightly above-average; that sort of performance is hardly reason to pass on buying very low on someone with such a very high ceiling such as Berry.

The Browns did take a safety in the fourth round, taking the Miami product Sheldrick Redwine. However, that will not be enough to make this secondary a legitimate threat to be competitive throughout the season. The organization has worked too hard to build a competitive roster to let an Achilles’ heel (no pun intended) be the reason they can’t stop teams in 2019.
