Recapping Xbox’s E3 2019 Briefing
Microsoft had a ton to show during its Xbox E3 2019 Briefing, showcasing around 60 games. Here’s our recap of the event.
At E3 2018, Xbox was a highlight of the show. We didn’t think this year would be able to top it, but it totally did. The majority of the show focused entirely on new games coming to Xbox consoles and that’s what the fans wanted all along.
So, let’s jump right into it. As mentioned, Xbox revealed around 60 games during its E3 Briefing. Obviously, some of them are indie games and other less popular titles. But, this doesn’t diminish the potential of these games.
The big games
The biggest games announced are Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, Gears 5, Borderlands 3, The Outer Worlds, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Bleeding Edge and Eldin Ring.
Without a doubt, Cyberpunk 2077 stole the show. Everyone was expecting it to show up and it did with a bang. Sadly, not much gameplay was shown and that glimpse we did get was towards the very end. But, it did reveal incredible cinematic cutscenes and an awesome trailer. Plus, the biggest reveal was Keanu Reeves being a character, along with a confirmed release date of April 16, 2020.
Both Xbox-exclusive powerhouses, Halo Infinite and Gears 5, also had a solid showing. Gears 5 showed quite a bit, including a new mode, Escape, and a Terminator: Dark Fate character pack. We wish we could’ve seen more of Halo Infinite, but it was good enough to hold us over till next year.
Another glimpse at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was shown. It didn’t show much gameplay, but shows promise as a great story and characters, as well as set pieces. The Outer Worlds trailer revealed a huge world, a variety of weapons and interesting characters.
Finally, the two new IP’s, Bleeding Edge and Eldin Ring. Bleeding Edge is a 4v4 online melee combat game. From the footage, it seems super chaotic. Check it out below:
As for Eldin Ring, it’s the new game from FromSoftware, who developed the Dark Souls series. In collaboration with George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones), we can expect a riveting story with devastatingly difficult gameplay. Check out the trailer below:
Project Scarlett and Project xCloud
Not much was shown about the next generation Xbox console, Project Scarlett. We simply got a brief clip of the creators talking about how powerful it will be. Some specs were also mentioned. We should be hearing more about it at E3 2020. For now, check it out below:
As for Project xCloud, Xbox’s video game streaming service, it will be available in October. Players will be able to play anywhere, courtesy of a stream from the cloud.
Other games and more
A variety of other games were shown, including Blair Witch, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Wasteland 3, Minecraft Dungeons, Battletoads, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Forza Horizon 4, CrossfireX and many more.
We’d like to discuss the ones that caught our attention the most: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Tales of Arise, Phantasy Star Online 2 and Blair Witch.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot looks very promising. Considering the success of Dragon Ball FighterZ, it seems more games based on the property are coming. The details are sparse, but the gameplay looks insane. Check out the trailer below:
Tales of Arise is yet another entry in the Tales series. It has never looked this gorgeous. It’s also been quite a bit since the last one was released, which was Tales of Berseria. Check out the trailer below:
Phantasy Star Online 2 looks very promising. The first game had a ton of replay value and now that the sequel has made its way West, we’ll get to experience it for ourselves. Check out the trailer:
Lastly, Blair Witch looks amazing. At first, it reminded us of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which revitalized the series. This being a new IP is very exciting, especially for horror fans. See the trailer below:

Overall, it was a solid presentation and we’re getting anxious to play these games.
