A preview of the June 19, 2019 edition of NXT UK, set to feature a Battle Royal to determine the no. 1 Contender to the NXT UK Women’s Championship.
With Imperium standing tall atop the brand, NXT UK begins putting together the jigsaw puzzle that is its immediate future. The first robust corner piece to be laid down: a battle royal to determine the No. 1 Contender — free to challenge at a time of their choosing per Sid Scala — to Toni Storm’s NXT UK Women’s Championship, AKA “Shiny-Shiny.” Yes, the title has a fun little nickname now, surely another vital part of the NXT UK puzzle.
While being given nowhere near the amount of prestige or buildup that the fatal four-way received, this No. 1 contender’s match does have more of an “it’s wide open, anything can happen” vibe. And that’s because every single wrestler in the increasingly deep and intriguing NXT UK women’s division is a participant.
If you’re not up-to-date on maintaining a robust database of who that might include, don’t worry, here’s your handy list:
- Piper Niven
- Killer Kelly
- Candy Floss
- Jinny
- Nina Samuels
- Isla Dawn
- Rhea Ripley
- Xia Brookside
- Jazzy Gabert
That’s a lot of names! Too many that it’s difficult to outright predict who is going to win, but let’s talk through who we know won’t win and see who is left at the end.
Right away, we can cross Nina Samuels off the list. She only challenged and lost to Storm but three weeks ago. No way a new season of The Nina Samuels Show could be produced that quickly. The same too probably goes for Jinny who — while she has taken on an intriguing direction as Jazzy Gabert’s wealthy, entitled boss — also lost an NXT UK Women’s Championship match. rather recently.
Xia Brookside will probably get to eliminate Killer Kelly as a measure of revenge for Kelly abandoning her to face Gabert alone. However, it would not be a Brookside appearance in NXT UK if she didn’t get brutalized by someone much bigger than her, so expect Gabert to throw Brookside over the top rope and into the seventh row.
Gabert seems like she would be a favorite, considering all she’s done so far in NXT UK is be terrifying and dominant. That probably makes her an easy target though, one to be taken out by all remaining competitors ganging up on her.
Speaking of dominant, there’s the two women vying to be considered the most dominant in all of NXT UK: Piper Niven and Rhea Ripley. An ill-timed injury to Ripley has had this feud in the proverbial holding pattern the last several weeks, but now they will finally have a chance to physically go at it.
Because of all the hype surrounding these two feuding, it seems unlikely that either of them would now shift focus to Storm before they can properly settle things with each other. Ripley will probably eliminate Niven’s fellow Scotswoman Isla Dawn, before the two go at it with such intensity that they eliminate each other.
Which leaves with one. Your winner and new No. 1 Contender to the NXT UK Women’s Championship: Candy Floss! WAIT. Did we forget one person?… Ah geez, we left out Kay Lee Ray! Kay Lee Ray is in this match too! Boy, this is a blunder of Toni Storm proportions.
Well, emerging from this crop of challengers, literally tossing aside those Storm deemed more worthy of a title shot than her, seems a very fitting way for Kay Lee Ray to be crowned No. 1 Contender.
