Fantasy Football: Bold Predictions and Hot Takes

I already wrote up one tight end but I’m putting another one in the bold predictions category. I think this position is actually more wide open than people think. Yes there are a clear 2-3 at the top but the next level down is not bad at all when you really start to dig into it.

My man Joe Metz wrote a great article on fantasy football tight ends outside of the top tier which can be found here. I’m not much of a fan of the Redskins offense, especially with the holdout by their excellent left tackle.

However, they’re going to have to get the ball down the field and Jordan Reed MIGHT actually be healthy going into a season for once in his life. He’s known to be a glass man and is hurt too often but at this point he’s being drafted as a backup tight end (15th tight end off the board) in the 13th round.

When you’re getting in the double digit rounds of your draft, you should absolutely be taking chances on a guy and Jordan Reed is an excellent candidate due to his athleticism and high ceiling potential. My bold prediction here is that a healthy Reed ends up with 100+ targets, 80+ catches, and 6+ touchdowns.

My final bold prediction is one I really believe in and may not be all that bold as the preseason continues. Devonta Freeman screwed over a lot of people last year, including myself.

He was my second pick in my home league but luckily I was able to overcome and manage to make the finals despite that. Recency bias is a real thing and people are skipping over Freeman quite a bit as he’s being drafted as the 17th running back currently according to fantasy football calculator.

My reasoning for liking Freeman here is the value with the potential ceiling. Look at his 2015 and 2016 seasons, add the fact Coleman is no longer there, and factor in the Falcons offense being phenomenal and you have a recipe for success.

I also read an interesting stat on this reddit post discussing the Falcons playing 13 dome games and how much more they score when playing in a dome. Because of all of this, my bold prediction for Freeman is that he will get 1500 all purpose yards and 10+ touchdowns which should firmly put him in (or near) the top 5 for running backs at the end of the season.
