NXT UK recap, October 3: Shine bright like a wizard

Two women’s matches? Two women’s matches! Opening up the episode are Piper Niven and Isla Dawn in the latest iteration of Scot-on-Scot violence. Both competitors have something to prove, Niven looking to get back on track after losing to Rhea Ripley, Dawn looking to win at all.

Dawn uses every bit of her witch powers in this one. Most notably, after multiple attempts, she’s able to lift up and slam Niven with a side suplex. She then rocks Niven with a jumping knee, surprising everyone, herself included. As Niven recovers and charges at her in the corner, Dawn dodges and does one of those Mortal Kombat leg sweeps, sending Niven face first into the turnbuckle. Then it’s a drop kick and a ground-level Meteora for a near-fall.

Dawn keeps on her opponent, locking Niven in a submission. The thing with Piper Niven however, is that she can strike a fatal blow at any time (kind of like a viper). She gets out of the hold by picking Dawn up and tossing her a few inches away, only to then uncork a headbutt followed by a Michinoku Driver. Just like that, the match is over.

Later on, Niven is being interviewed backstage and happens to mention the NXT UK Women’s Championship in passing. This causes Jinny to materialize out of thin air because, no no no, she is going to be the next champion. Confused why Jinny is getting so worked up when she was just mentioning a new champion currently exists, Piper is left vulnerable and is attacked from behind by Jazzy Gabert. Jinny and Jazzy beat up on her for a bit until security comes to break things up.

As he loves to do, Johnny Saint takes to Twitter to perform his GM duties (literally all his tweets over the last year have been to make matches). Next week, it will be Piper Niven and Jazzy Gabert in one-on-one action. Finally. You could also see this tying in to the confrontation Rhea Ripley had with Jinny and Jazzy. Maybe Ripley and Jazzy will go one-on-one too, maybe (somehow) Ripley and Niven will be made to team up against Jinny and Jazzy; maybe there will be a triple threat between Niven, Ripley, and Jazzy. Give us all the lady hoss fights (featuring Jinny) you got, Johnny!
