How will the WWE Draft impact 205 Live?
The recent WWE Draft included Superstars from 205 Live. Some key pieces of the roster have moved up to Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown. These changes will impact 205 Live.
205 Live has always had a small roster and it just shrunk even more due to the WWE Draft. During the first night of the draft, all three members of the Lucha House Party (Kalisto, Gran Metallik and Lince Dorado) and former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Drew Gulak were moved up to Friday Night SmackDown.
During night two of the draft, Akira Tozawa and Humberto Carrillo were drafted to Monday Night Raw. Drake Maverick is currently a free agent, but will likely go wherever the 24/7 Championship is. This would leave the cruiserweights without a general manager. Maverick was mostly absent once the 24/7 Championship became a thing as he won it, lost it, and has spent most of his time chasing after the champion and not consummating his marriage.
Gulak and Tozawa have both been big pieces of the 205 Live picture. Both are former champions and have been involved in angles as recent as last week. Once Gulak lost his title to Lio Rush, it was assumed that’d he be drafted. In his last appearance on the purple brand, he once again teamed with Tony Nese.
Tozawa has been in a storyline with his former friend, The Brian Kendrick, who turned on him a mere four weeks ago. Last Friday night, Tozawa finally had his chance at revenge in a no-disqualification, no count-out match. The storyline took another twist when Mike Kanellis got involved (who asked for his release on Monday). It seems like the storyline would continue with these latest developments. But with Tozawa being drafted, it would be safe to assume that his part of the storyline is over.
Carrillo has been a standout for the cruiserweights. Though he had matches on NXT, it was never to the extent that it could’ve been. Being on a smaller roster, the light shined brighter on him. He had a series of excellent matches and won the affection of commentator Aiden English. The Latin Lion is a blossoming star and losing him puts a big hole in the roster.

There is a possibility that two 205 Live spots have been filled. Last week, a video package of Isaiah “Swerve” Scott was shown. A few months ago, he had a match with Gulak that was very well received. He’s also gained a lot of attention from his NXT matches. Scott would be an excellent addition to the brand.
Danny Burch made his debut on “The Most Exciting Hour of Television” two weeks ago by teaming with his NXT partner, Oney Lorcan. Lorcan has been a staple of 205 Live for months, while occasionally wrestling on NXT. Burch has since had two cruiserweight matches and secured the pin in both. His hard-hitting style has been seen on NXT UK as well. The British brawler would definitely spice things up on 205 Live.
With the fate of 205 Live always teetering, having several key Superstars move on could be a big blow to the brand. Adding Scott and Burch and having Rush return could keep them on track. Hopefully, a few more cruiserweights will be added to round out the roster.
How do you think losing key Superstars will affect 205 Live? Which Superstars would you like to see compete with the cruiserweights?
