205 Live recap for December 13, 2019: The Cruiserweights get a new champion
Here’s the recap of all the high-flying action you may have missed from this week’s episode of 205 Live. Watch the cruiserweights every Friday night at 10 PM.
This past Wednesday night on NXT, Lio Rush defended his title against Angel Garza. The match was fast-paced and could’ve gone either way. Garza tried hitting a springboard stunner, while Rush tried to finish Garza with his own move, but failed. In the end, Garza hit the Wing Clipper and put Rush in a full nelson to become the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
During the commercial break, Garza brought his girlfriend to the ring where he proposed and said “yes.” Garza said after the show that no one knew he was going to propose.

Ariya Daivari vs. Raul Mendoza
In a rematch from two weeks ago, the pair started off with a shoving match before trading control of the match. Mendoza dived on the outside, but Daivari quickly recovered and threw Mendoza into the ring post. Daivari continued his punishing ways once they got back in the ring.
Mendoza got some offense and took out his anger on his opponent with multiple short jabs and a dropkick. Mendoza followed with a missile dropkick from the top rope and another high-risk maneuver from the top rope to the outside. Mendoza nearly pinned Daivari. “Daivari Dinero” kicked Mendoza hard in the face, following with a frog splash. Mendoza nailed a huricanrana off the top rope, but it wasn’t enough to put Daivari away.
Daivari delivered a uranagi, but Mendoza kicked out. The pair exchanged blows in the center of the ring. Mendoza stole a win when he pinned Daivari in a move that Aiden English dubbed the “Raul-up”.
Joaquin Wilde vs. James Tapia
Joaquin Wilde is a newcomer to WWE and has been seen on NXT. Prior to his match, they aired a promo video to introduce him to the WWE Universe.
James Tapia is an enhancement talent who starts off putting Wilde in a wrist lock. Wilde shows off his move-set and quickness. Wilde attempted a sunset flip, but successfully nailed a powerbomb. He won with the Wilde Thing.
Wilde gave his thoughts after getting his first win.
Next week’s episode of 205 Live will be a recap of the purple brand’s best match.
Danny Burch vs. Tony Nese
Last week, Burch came close to beating the former NXT Cruiserweight champion, Lio Rush. Nese flexed his muscles and Burch responded by putting him in technical holds before flexing himself. Burch continued controlling the match with his arm bars and headlocks. Every time Nese tried to get some offense in, Burch stopped it and went right back to technical holds and mat-based moves.
Burch taunted his opponent by saying “C’mon ‘Premiere Athlete.'” English dubbed the match, “Headlock City”. Burch caught Nese out of midair and followed up with several uppercuts. Burch has clearly done his homework and throws Nese into the barricade. Nese yanked Burch down from the turnbuckle. After he got Burch down on the mat, he kept him there with kicks. “The Premiere Athlete” used the top rope to hurt Burch before hitting his opponent with a moonsault. Nese used the body scissors to keep Burch down. Nese punished Burch more with chops in the corner. Nese is so confident that he mocks the crowd and pays for it with a missile dropkick.
Burch took control again with more uppercuts, an enzuguri, and a suplex. Nese went for a pump handle slam and got a headbutt for his efforts. Nese attempted to get to the top turnbuckle, but Burch pulled him down and put him in a crossface. Nese somehow moved close enough to get his foot on the ropes. Nese dove on the outside and then hit a 450 Splash, but Burch caught him and put him in another crossface. Nese gets out and won with a Running Nese.
Who will be the No. 1 contender for new champion Angel Garza? Is Tony Nese that man?
